Environmental Education continues to be a free service to all Macon county schools and community groups. In addition to educating on the many ways to reduce, reuse and recycle, an emphasis has been placed on recycling as a means to save energy.
Programming for schools is continually updated and with new ideas, activities and contests to reinforce ways to keep our environment in mind when conducting normal daily activities.
Many schools in Macon County are continually recycling on a daily basis. In the current school year students and teachers have recycled over 14 tons of paper. That amounts to a huge savings in energy. In fact, that 14 tons of paper is the equivalent to saving 238 trees, 5320 gallons of oil, 56,000 kilowatts of energy, and 98,000 gallons of water. So, recycling does save energy as well as precious resources.
