The paper recycling program is very successful with the schools and made possible by Macon County Solid Waste, Midwest Fiber, and the local DOVE/RSVP organization. Each school is encouraged to provide a sponsor and enlist the help of students for collection of paper. School sponsor should contact the Macon County Educator for enrollment into the program. Recycle bins and collection containers are loaned to schools at no charge for the duration of the program.

The plastic recycling program is in the beginning stages. Several schools within the county have asked to recycle plastic and are doing well. The program requires commitment from the school and the students and as a result they have been very successful in conserving large amounts of a non renewable resource used in the production of plastic.
